Senior Specialist – Finance Data Analyst (1 Position)

Job Purpose
The Senior Specialist – Finance Data Analyst is responsible for collecting, cleaning, and interpreting complex financial data to generate actionable insights that support strategic decision-making, regulatory compliance, and financial reporting.
The role ensures the accuracy, integrity, completeness, and timeliness of financial data used for statutory reporting, tax compliance, and audits. It also involves leveraging the Bank’s data architecture to automate reporting processes, manage General Ledger (GL) mappings, and resolve audit findings.
Key Responsibilities
1. Data Management & Governance
- Clean, filter, and organize raw financial data to ensure accuracy
- Collect and manage data from multiple sources while maintaining database integrity
- Strengthen financial data governance in line with regulatory and internal standards
- Identify data quality gaps and implement improvement initiatives
- Maintain finance data dictionaries, metadata, and documentation
- Ensure compliance with:
- IFRS standards
- Tax laws
- Bank of Tanzania (BOT) regulations
- Design and implement controls for End User Computing (EUC) tools (e.g., Excel, SQL)
- Perform data validation, reconciliation, and quality assurance
2. Data Extraction, Systems Support & Automation
- Provide technical support to Finance teams on data systems and analytics tools
- Develop and execute complex SQL queries for data extraction
- Automate financial reports using:
- Python
- R
- Advanced Excel
- Support system enhancements and reporting automation
- Recommend and implement tools to improve data acquisition and reporting efficiency
3. Financial Reporting & Tax Support
- Support monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting cycles
- Manage data extraction and validation for financial and regulatory reports
- Develop automated data pipelines for financial reporting packs
- Conduct variance analysis by tracing data to transaction-level sources
- Support internal and external audits by explaining data lineage
- Manage General Ledger (GL) mapping to financial statements
- Support tax reporting (VAT, Withholding Tax, Excise Duty) with accurate datasets
4. Systems & Data Integrity
- Demonstrate expert understanding of core banking systems (e.g., Flexcube, T24)
- Monitor GL health and detect:
- Imbalances
- Suspense accounts
- Unmapped transactions
- Represent Finance in IT/system projects to ensure reporting continuity
- Identify and resolve data quality issues at source systems
Knowledge & Skills
- Advanced Systems Knowledge: Core banking systems and data architecture
- Data Expertise:
- Advanced SQL
- Python or R
- Advanced Excel
- Data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau)
- Financial Knowledge:
- IFRS standards
- Tax regulations
- Accounting principles
- Audit & Compliance: Ability to explain complex data processes to auditors
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Communication: Ability to present complex insights to non-technical stakeholders
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in:
- Finance
- Accounting
- Data Science
- Computer Science
- Actuarial Science or related field
- Professional certification (added advantage):
- CPA / ACCA
- Data analytics certifications (added advantage):
- Google Data Analytics
- Microsoft Certified Data Analyst
- Minimum 4 years’ experience in:
- Finance systems within banking/financial services
- Financial reporting and GL management
- Proven experience in:
- Supporting audits
- Handling large datasets
- Financial modeling for statutory reporting
