Position Overview

IST is seeking a Teacher Assistant for the Life Centred Education (LCE) Program to support students with diverse learning needs. The role involves assisting lead teachers, supporting personalised learning plans, tutoring students individually or in small groups, preparing learning materials, and documenting student progress.

The LCE model focuses on personalised instruction where students receive support in:

• Modified grade-level content.
• Foundational academic skills.
• Independent living skills.

Key Responsibilities

Classroom Support

• Support the lead teacher in managing classroom activities.
• Monitor class schedules and student activities.
• Assist with lesson preparation.
• Prepare teaching materials and classroom equipment.
• Revise lessons with students individually or in small groups.
• Help create lesson plans.
• Support a safe and positive learning environment.

Student Support

• Assist students with different learning needs.
• Monitor student progress and provide feedback.
• Support students during:
  • Break periods
  • Lunch
  • Field trips
  • Non-classroom activities
• Identify student challenges and collaborate on solutions.
• Communicate student progress with parents when required.

Professional Responsibilities

• Follow school policies, government regulations, and classroom agreements.
• Attend professional development sessions and staff meetings.
• Participate in parent meetings.
• Provide supervision during school activities.
• May serve as a homeroom advisor when required.
• Perform additional duties assigned by the Vice Principal.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor’s Degree in Special Needs Education.

Experience

• Minimum 4 years of teaching experience.
• Experience supporting students with special learning needs.
• MYP/DP training or experience is desirable.

Required Skills & Competencies

• Excellent spoken and written communication skills.
• Strong understanding of classroom practices and teaching methods.
• Knowledge of child protection and health & safety practices.
• Good decision-making and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and students.
