Position Details
Position: Tradesperson 1 – HV Electrical
Department: Engineering
Location: Geita Gold Mine, Tanzania
Employment Status: Full Time
Objective of the Role
To effectively manage electrical maintenance activities in underground mining operations, including:
- Electrical reticulation systems
- Dewatering facilities
- Camp facilities and infrastructure
- Overhead power lines
- Power generation systems
- Medium and high-voltage electrical systems
- Underground ventilation systems
The role focuses on ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation of underground electrical infrastructure and equipment.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Maintenance and Repairs
- Diagnose electrical faults on underground equipment and machinery.
- Attend to equipment breakdowns and carry out repairs.
- Replace damaged or faulty electrical components.
- Conduct testing and inspections to verify successful repairs.
- Safely return equipment to operational service.
Preventive and Planned Maintenance
- Perform routine inspections and scheduled maintenance activities.
- Execute planned maintenance according to approved schedules.
- Assist in developing and improving maintenance plans.
- Ensure equipment reliability and availability.
Installation and Electrical Projects
- Assemble and install electrical and electronic systems.
- Perform high-voltage electrical work related to mining projects.
- Support electrical infrastructure upgrades and modifications.
- Ensure installations meet required standards and specifications.
Equipment Performance and Coordination
- Work closely with supervisors, engineers, and other stakeholders.
- Support initiatives to improve equipment performance and reliability.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and testing instruments in good working condition.
Safety and Compliance
- Comply with company safety standards and legal requirements.
- Follow electrical isolation and high-voltage safety procedures.
- Complete maintenance records and documentation accurately and on time.
- Promote a safe working environment at all times.
Education and Qualifications
Required
- Form IV Certificate.
- High Voltage Training Certificate.
- VETA Trade Test Grade One in Electrical or Level III Industrial Electricity Certificate.
- Valid Tanzanian Driving Licence.
- Proven driving competency.
Added Advantage
- Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
- Degree in Electrical Engineering.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience working on underground mining equipment.
- Experience performing high-voltage switching operations.
- Previous experience in a similar role involving underground high-voltage electrical systems.
- Experience with electrical maintenance in mining or heavy industrial environments.
Knowledge and Skills
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of high-voltage electrical systems.
- Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot electrical faults.
- Proficiency in using electrical diagnostic and testing tools.
- Ability to read and interpret:
- Electrical schematics
- Circuit diagrams
- Technical drawings
- Ability to install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring and equipment.
- Advanced knowledge of PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) systems.
Problem-Solving and Analytical Skills
- Strong troubleshooting and fault-finding capabilities.
- Ability to identify root causes of electrical failures.
- Sound decision-making skills in high-pressure situations.
